Florida Classic...Here We Come!

The Florida Classic is the biggest and most well-attended football game between two HBCUs (Historically Black Colleges and Universities). The Florida A&M University Rattlers and the Bethune Cookman College Wildcats along with thousands of fans will converge on Orlando Florida's Citrus Bowl this weekend to celebrate this monumental game.

I say monumental because Rufus will be attending his first college football game. The family did go to Howard University's Homecoming last month but after spending a late night out with Rhadi the night before, I surely couldn't muster up enough strength to make the game. But Rufus and I did get to watch the game on television and even got to see Rhadi and P. Diddy during their fouth quarter interview segment.

Earlier this month, Rhadi, Rufus and I spent Friday evening under the lights at our cousin's high school football game. Watching the young kids cheer on their team, the parents chaperone and volunteer behind the concession stands and the fans enjoy the cool evening in the stands made me remember our high school days.

Go back almost 15 years and fans would have been cheering for Rhadi and the rest of the Richard Montgomery Football team. Back in the day, Rhadi was our football team. He played on the offense and the defense and even kicking the ball a few times. Even though I really didn't understand the game back then, I knew when to cheer and when not to cheer.

And now we're going to share our football experiences with Rufus!

I can't wait to see his face when he sees tens of thousands of people cheering, laughing and having fun and of course, we can't forget the marching bands!

Rufus loves music and it won't be long before he's playing the piano, the steel guitar, the drums or whatever instrument he touches. He's musically inclined and he's going to have a ball bouncing and moving to the tunes from FAMU and BCC's bands.

I'm going to have to bring the camera and take lots of pictures because this is one game that we won't want to forget.....
